Here are just a few examples of the experiences you can add to your Spanish program:

  • Study abroad with a faculty member during the summer to experience Spanish language and culture.
  • Combine your Spanish program with another Arts major like Global Studies, or add it as a secondary language in the Languages and Literatures program, and be able to apply for co-op at the end of your first year to gain real-world work experience.
  • Take translation courses to gain practical experience that you can add to your resume.
  • Volunteer at a local school or another local organization to gain language and professional experience.

Program Details

Design Your Degree

This program must be completed in combination with another Bachelor of Arts program. You can easily pair your studies with Anthropology or Global Studies, or add it as one of your primary languages (alongside French) in the Languages and Literatures program.

Apply Spanish to Practical Projects

Studying Spanish at Laurier offers you the opportunity to experience the latest methods in language learning while applying your knowledge through creative projects and new technologies, such as:

  • digital stories

  • photo essays

Study Abroad and Hone Your Spanish Skills

After completing your first year, you’ll be able to study abroad in Spain with a Laurier faculty member during the summer for SP288, a 1.0-credit course.

Nothing compares to experiencing the Spanish language and culture in its own setting! While developing your language skills, you’ll also become more aware of cultural nuances and the uniqueness of textual and artistic representations.

Study Spanish for Business

Did you know that the Spanish program at Laurier is the sole Canadian representative of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI)? You can get the official certificate for Basic Business Spanish by taking our Spanish for Business courses and writing the MCCI exam here at Laurier! Our students have had a 97% success rate in the exam for more than 18 years.
