The Penderecki String Quartet's annual chamber academy and concert series returns for advanced string players at Wilfrid Laurier University from May 25 to June 7.

Background

QuartetFest is an intensive chamber music program that brings young artists from across Canada and abroad together with world-renowned performers. QuartetFest is one of the most anticipated spring festivals by chamber music lovers and young musicians.

QuartetFest is hosted by Laurier's Faculty of Music, the Penderecki String Quartet and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society.  

QuartetFest began at Wilfrid Laurier University in 1992 and is led by Laurier's Quartet-in-Residence the Penderecki String Quartet.

Program

Each week students will receive:

  • 60-min private lesson
  • 5 x 90 minutes of chamber coaching
  • 3 x 2 hours of chamber class
  • At least one opportunity to perform in a Young Artists Concert

Rates: $650 for two weeks, $350 for one week. Merit-based scholarships and bursaries based on financial need are available. Please contact Jeremy Bell, Director of Quartetfest (jcbell@wlu.ca).

Secondary School Workshop

The Penderecki String Quartet’s annual QuartetFest at Wilfrid Laurier University will feature an (up to) 3-day workshop for secondary school students. Dates June 5, 6, 7, 2026. A limited number of individuals applying with solo, duo, and trio repertoire will be accepted. Pre-formed quartets are welcome.

Our Secondary School Workshop will focus on masterclasses and coachings with members of the Penderecki String Quartet. There may be performance opportunities. 

All groups or individual applicants must submit an application no later than March 1, 2026.

The workshop fee is $50 per person/per day (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Students may request to participate from one to four days, as available. Overnight affordable residence accommodations are available on campus. Parental supervision is required.

Accommodation
